Slop Kart - Official Trailer, rendered from the game's own code

Slop Kart is our free browser kart racer, and this is its trailer: 55 seconds, cut like an anime opening.

How it was made

None of the racing footage is a screen recording. Because we own the game's source, the trailer runs the real game in a director mode:

  • Scripted races. Each shot is a small scenario: who is on track, where they start, what they do. The simulation is baked to a per-tick recording, so every frame is a pure function of time and renders the same way every time.
  • A free camera. Each shot has its own camera rig and lens instead of the gameplay chase camera.
  • Offline rendering. Frames are rendered one at a time in headless Chromium at 1080p60, with several sub-frame samples blended for motion blur, then piped to ffmpeg.
  • Cuts on the music. The song's lyrics are aligned per word, so name cards stamp in on the sung syllable and lyric lines light up as they are sung.
  • Anime cut-ins. Each of the eight racers gets a hero shot with an illustrated eyes strip and a one-beat pose flash, drawn from the same 3D models used in the game.
