DaemonCore Academy Users Are Super Happy With One Feature: “Free”

We have been watching people discover DaemonCore Academy, and one thing keeps getting attention.

Its free.

Apparently we have reached a point where telling people that software is free requires further explanation.

So here it is:

Free means free.

Not free until Lesson 5.

Not free until you reach the interesting labs.

Not free with a giant UPGRADE TO PRO button sitting over everything you actually wanted to use.

Not a seven-day trial.

Not "start learning for free" followed by a checkout screen twenty minutes later.

DaemonCore Academy is free cybersecurity education.

And people seem genuinely surprised by that.

We built Academy because cybersecurity has one of the strangest contradictions in technology. The industry constantly talks about the skills gap and desperately needing more qualified people, while some of the people trying to acquire those skills encounter subscription after subscription before they have even figured out what nmap does.

We wanted to try something different.

Give people the Academy.

Let them learn.

Let them experiment.

Let them screw something up, figure out why they screwed it up, fix it, and remember the lesson because they actually did something.

No financial timer ticking in the background.

DaemonCore is still a business. We build professional commercial tools, and those products help make it possible for us to keep building the Academy.

But we made a deliberate decision that the education itself would not be the thing we held hostage.

That distinction matters to us.

A student should not have to wonder whether the next lesson is included in their subscription.

Someone changing careers should not have to calculate whether they can afford another month.

A teenager discovering cybersecurity for the first time should not need their parents credit card before they can find out whether this is something they love.

They should be able to open the Academy and learn.

And judging by the reaction we have received, people really, really like that idea.

Maybe that should not be surprising.

Maybe people are simply tired of being told something is "free" when what the company actually means is:

"Free enough to get you invested."

We mean the boring dictionary version.
