I've known the good five rules in communication from Buddha's Dhamma,
I'd recommend you to see this as not religious but rather good principles.

What to be spoken is meet to these rules:

  1. It's true.
  2. It's benefit to the listener.
  3. It's on the right time and place.
  4. It's come from good intention ( kindness, compassion )
  5. It's polite words.

we can adapt this priciples for daily life too.
