I’m not a designer by any means but I tend to go with a few rules when I do design things.
Palette of no more than 7 colours
3 “neutral colours” of various levels of darkness
2 “cold colours” - greens/blues
2 “warm colours” - reds/oranges
I try and make the neutral colours off-monochrome with the background colour shifted towards the warm end of the spectrum and menu colours shifted towards the cold end of the spectrum.
And I also use coolors.co to play around with palettes to get a feel for the different colours! Hope that helps!
