A few weeks ago, I was accepted into the HNG Internship program, a fast-paced boot camp for learning digital skills. It is aimed at advanced learners and prepares them for professional positions through collaborative and project-based learning. As a result, I am writing this post to articulate my reasons for taking up front-end development and how HNG can help me achieve those goals.
My web development journey began in another boot camp (you don't have to tell me that I take a lot of boot camps), where I developed an instant interest in the back-end side of things. However, when my final project was rejected because my supervisor thought my project needed an interface and I had chosen to work alone for the project, I was forced to take up front-end development. All of this happened about a year ago. In that time, I have become deeply passionate about front-end for several reasons:
1. I enjoy crafting visually appealing interfaces. Over the last year, I have enjoyed writing code to bring my ideas to life. Seeing your code come to life and become usable is very exciting and rewarding. Also, there is a quick feedback loop for front-end developers that allows them to see, almost instantaneously, the result of changes made to their code.
2. I get to use exciting tools and technologies. Working with only a few of the large number of tools and technologies available to front-end developers has also been very exciting. These tools speed and simplify development.
3. Strong community and learning resources. There are a lot of online tutorials, courses, and communities (like freeCodeCamp, Front-end Mentor, and GitHub) to help you build proficiency and grow as a developer.
4. Flexibility and versatility. Front-end developers are in high demand across many different industries like gaming, finance, commerce, and so on. This means there are many areas/tools for a developer to be an expert. It also makes transitioning from one industry to another relatively easy.
I think the HNG Internship is ideal for me because of its fast-paced, project-based model. Its front-end development track offers hands-on experience in real-world projects, allowing participants like me to apply their skills in a practical setting designed to be as challenging as possible so that participants are equipped for success in tech roles. It also provides the mentorship and community support that newbies desperately need to succeed in their careers.
Finally, HNG curates a vast network top talent across various fields, including software development. You can go here, or here if you are looking for talented, pre-vetted professionals to handle the interface part your projects.
