Apple released the iOS 27.3 Developer Preview on Tuesday, November 3, and per The Verge the build opens Siri AI to third-party app developers. The assistant can now draw on a user's personal context, natural language processing and on-screen awareness, so a request can take into account what is currently on the display and what the person is doing inside an app. The centerpiece of the preview is a new app skills capability that lets developers combine several separate tasks into one action, moving Siri away from running single commands toward completing a whole task in one request.
The flow works like this: in Apple's own example, a phrase such as 'Hey Siri, change my ride pickup' triggers one combined action โ the assistant orders the ride, follows its progress through the Live Activity and then changes the pickup address, with no need to open the ride-hailing app or issue three separate commands. App names also drop out of the required vocabulary. Per Apple's developer documentation, the name no longer has to be spoken when the target app is in the foreground, during a Live Activity or in an ongoing conversation with Siri about that app, because the assistant resolves the target from context. Apple adds that users can ask Siri AI what it can do in each app to see the actions available.
For scale, Apple is extending the same Siri AI capabilities across 15 of its own applications โ Calendar, Files, Finder, Journal, Mail, Maps, Messages, Music, Notes, Photos, Preview, Reminders, Safari, Shortcuts and Weather โ setting baseline behavior inside first-party software before third-party integrations arrive on the same surface. 9to5Mac, which covered the announcement alongside The Verge, notes that earlier versions of Siri AI worked with only a limited set of supported schemas, so opening the preview to any app through App Intents changes how software connects to the assistant. Per Apple and per The Verge, this is a Developer Preview aimed at developers, and no public release date has been announced.
IMPACT: A preview that turns multi-step app interactions into one spoken request gives every App Intents developer a direct line into Siri, and app-name-free resolution shifts usage toward intent-level commands instead of app-by-app navigation.
