Traversal raised a $120M Series B at a $1B valuation to build AI agents for site reliability engineering. The round was announced via Business Wire on November 3, co-led by Kleiner Perkins, Redpoint Ventures and Khosla Ventures, with participation from Sequoia, Battery and Amex Ventures. Total funding now stands at $173M. The product is agents that investigate production incidents: they take an alert, query dashboards and logs, form hypotheses and draft a root-cause analysis for the on-call engineer. The billion-dollar mark places the company among the agentic-AI unicorns of the current wave.
The company reports steep growth, with the figures supplied by the company itself. Per Traversal, ARR grew 9x this year, and its agents conducted more than 150,000 incident investigations in a quarter. Named customers include PepsiCo, Nubank, Harvey and DigitalOcean โ per the company, evidence that SRE agents are moving out of pilots and into the daily work of operations teams. The positioning is teammate for on-call rotations, not a replacement for SRE teams. All growth figures above are company-reported and not independently audited.
The round lands against a sobering measurement of the niche. ORCA-bench, a root-cause-analysis benchmark built by Traversal's own research team with Cornell Tech and Columbia on 1079 tasks, found that the best of five frontier agents solves only 25.3 percent of medium-complexity incidents and about 10 percent on vague incident reports โ with hallucinations reaching up to 40 percent of incident reports. Because Traversal co-built the benchmark, it is not a fully outside audit โ but the gap is the market Traversal is betting on: general-purpose frontier models struggle with messy production telemetry, so specialized tooling has room to differentiate.
The economics of the niche are the core of the pitch. Incident response is expensive, alert fatigue is chronic, and SRE headcount rarely scales with the infrastructure it protects. Agents that can run an investigation from page to diagnosis aim at the largest unpriced line item in reliability work โ the hours between an alert and a root cause. For buyers, the benchmark doubles as a due-diligence instrument that did not exist a year ago.
IMPACT: if specialized SRE agents keep closing the gap ORCA-bench exposes, on-call teams shift from manual triage to reviewing agent-drafted diagnoses โ while vendor metrics like ARR and investigation counts will need verification from outside the vendor, not just from a benchmark the vendor helped build.
