Seeing as nearly all of the revenue Google gets from the free services I use come from ads, I'd be happy to pay the $5 per year they make off of me. I use Google services that cost money, too, and I don't mind that I've been paying for those annually.
As for Facebook, well I don't use Facebook. GitHub and Dev.to, absolutely, and Twitter mostly to promote my own projects, sure, but I've never been a fan of Facebook data mining me for ad revenue, like from Cambridge Analytica, even though I don't have a Facebook account.
But until the free services start costing, I'll just do my part by posting information I don't mind being public and always keeping abreast of the latest dark design trends, so I can keep avoiding them in my own life. Privacy is just so much theater in modern life; it simply doesn't exist for anyone, even people trying to live off the grid.
