DEV Team Update

We are sharing today that we have made the difficult decision to say goodbye to a portion of our team in the form of layoffs. We underwent a round of layoffs in 2022, and it pains us to have to do that again this year.

We remain focused and committed to serving our global community, while ensuring that we can do so sustainably in the long run. Our community, our products, and our open source projects are the result of the great people who we have worked with over the years, and it saddens us to part ways with anyone on our core team.

We are saying goodbye to some incredibly thoughtful and productive folks across development, design, community support and sales. If your team is hiring in any of those areas, I welcome you to get in touch with me at peter@forem.com. We would love to pass on recommendations.

We are so grateful for everyone who has contributed to make DEV what it is, and this is really tough.

Thank you for everything.

Ben and team,

I feel for everyone affected, and most certainly the colleagues that are moving onto other things. It might seem daunting, but if you've worked at a place as wonderful as Forem/Dev, that says a LOT about your skills/marketability.

Regarding those left behind, feel free to accept that this was a "bad day", it most definitely helps process things and does a lot more than some void of a "pep talk".

We've had the same things happen on roughly the same time scale. Definitely tough.

Spreading love and warmth to all those affected by this layoff. It can never be easy, but it will get better.

This is sad news. It's generally observed that companies hire aggressively for the lure of rapid growth, often overlooking long-term sustainability. 😟
