I realised that my happiness was too tied to the internet and to other people, so I went outside and tried to find happiness. I looked for every colour of the rainbow in the parks / fields around me and saw the largest, fluffiest dog I have ever seen.

My happiness may not be as tied to the internet anymore, but oh my is it tied to big giant fluffy dogs!

WOW I love this comment. This sounds like such an amazing mindfulness exercise. I'm going to try it!

And yes... fluffy dogs are my mental health medication. Well, that and my actual mental health medication 😆

Not dev related: Advocated for my cat to get the care he needed at the vet hospital. They act like I'm paranoid up until they do an ultrasound and take him back to get prepped for surgery >.> Now I have a groggy cat laying next to me who gets bed rest and pain meds for the next two weeks

Dev related: Actually kept up with work this week while running on little to no sleep due to all that happening on Sunday/Monday :o

Managed to overcome a lot... and I mean A LOT of errors and bugs in my DO Hackaton submission project. I am amazed at how much weight the sentence 'leave it for a couple of hours' has for successful programming. I also bought a new pair of winter socks 🔥🧦.

Other than the sudden relief of lots of poorly-planned deadlines removed and finally getting it off my chest, it doesn't feel like much of a win yet but it will be in the long run:

Finally telling a startup CEO, who dragged his feet on an equity agreement for over a month (which I should have made more noise about early on instead of being so head down trying to adjust my schedule for said deadlines) and who is going to have an impossible task explaining to investors what two of the co-founders on his cap table actually do, to F right off after weeks of micromanagement and lack of consideration for other things going on in my life.

The project I've been working on, a sign that turns on when starting streaming and off again when finished, is complete! Or at least version 1 of it is. I've started on version 2 a little, but want to finish a post about the initial build and code first.

Plus I'm now on leave until the new year, so time to relax.

I learned how we can extand vue next and how we can create and test in local a package (and push it to npm)
Created a post on dev.to about it ^^

And get Access to mod center on dev.to

Great week :D

After discovering some performance issues, I presented my findings to the team. Mostly around image compression, it was nice to delve back into an aspect of web development I haven’t looked at professionally for a few years and pass on that knowledge. Not only will the team be better placed to optimise but our customers will get a nice speed boost too!

Excited to see how they take that information on board and apply it to old and new projects.

Finished the static site generator I was stuck on building.

GitHub logo twhite96 / static-gen-ruby

A static site generator scaffold built with Ruby

Static Gen

A static site generator built with Ruby.

How to use:

  1. 🌀 Clone the repo at https://github.com/twhite96/static-gen-ruby.git or with GitHub CLI gh repo clone twhite96/static-gen-ruby
  2. 🏃 Run: bundle to install dependencies.
  3. 🎊 Have fun with it.

Motivation for this app

I wanted to show that I could build something, even if it was small, on my own, with little guidance.

Ben Halpern started a thread about his generator on DEV and I took his scaffold and ran with it.

🥞 Stack

Ruby and ruby-handlebars

👊🏽 Wins

Just getting the script running is a win for me, as I am not a Ruby dev at all.

😐 Difficulties

Ruby is a whole other animal compared to JavaScript and React. No semicolons, defining different methods (Ruby is class based, so there are more methods than functions in this instance), etc. I spent a whole month stuck on what this method did:
