RSS -- back to the future

Back to the future... since a couple of weeks I no longer use social media, especially TwiX as that has become an open war room with ongoing shitstorms, to stay updated on the subjects I care about...

Instead, I went back, well forward if you think about it, to the good old RSS feeds

Currently testing Inoreader which is quite nice and I created very curated lists of sources and subjects I want to follow

Three immediate benefits

  1. Peaceful environment... no hate speech... no slogans... no discrimination... no shitstorm... no auto-promoted Elon... NO FRUSTRATION!

  2. I read more in depth articles and blog posts as I now take the time to not just read the headlines... content pops up right in the app in reading mode... with very little pollution

  3. Reading more... but it takes much less time !!! Cuz I am no longer distracted and frustrated by pointless people with pointless opinions CAPSLOCKING each other to death

RSS is one of those forgotten gems of the Internet pushed into oblivion by so called highTech cool new technologies...

The problem with high-tech solutions is that they are destructive for other technologies... “one to rule them all”

#lowTech on the other hand, does not mean NO tech... it means using sufficient technology, so basically a tool that just satisfies the need AND it does not have the pretension to deprecate other technologies, respects diversity and, most of the time, open and accessible standards

It is a #robust approach to technology that I find very appeasing

So this actually is not « back to the future » but more a « forward with the lessons from the past »
