I will happily pay as it is very convenient but one gripe I have about Docker Desktop on macOS is that it is painfully slow. The virtualization layer needs to become better. I get better performance when I use a self-managed Linux VM using VirtualBox.
This is only a problem if you share a folder from MacOS - if you use a Volume and use VS Code to connect to this Volume you get the same speed. The only thing you loose is the incremental Time Machine backup.
