What Happens in the First 72 Hours After Switching to DialPhone

We track every migration meticulously. Here is the actual timeline of what happens when a business switches to DialPhone, based on data from our last 200 deployments.

Hour 0-1: Account Setup

What happens: Your dedicated migration specialist creates your account, sets up your organisational structure (departments, locations), and configures your phone number plan.

What you do: Nothing. We handle this based on the information you provided during sign-up.

Average time: 45 minutes.

Hour 1-4: System Configuration

What happens:

  • Auto-attendant configured with your custom greeting
  • Ring groups created (sales, support, management, reception)
  • Call recording enabled for all users (or selected groups)
  • Business hours and after-hours routing set up
  • Voicemail greetings configured with email delivery
  • CRM integration connected (Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho, Pipedrive — whichever you use)

What you do: Review the configuration and confirm it matches your requirements. Takes 15 minutes of your time.

Hour 4-8: Phones and Apps

If you ordered desk phones:
Pre-configured phones ship same day. When they arrive (next business day in UK), plug in Ethernet cable → phone boots → auto-provisions in 90 seconds → ready to use.

For softphone users:
Your team receives an email with download links for:

  • Desktop app (Windows/Mac)
  • Mobile app (iOS/Android)

Login with their email + temporary password. Done.

Device Setup Time What They Need
Desk phone (Yealink) 90 seconds Ethernet cable
Desktop softphone 3 minutes Download + login
Mobile app 2 minutes Download + login

Hour 8-24: Testing (Day 1)

What we test with you:

Test What We Check Pass Criteria
Inbound calls Main number rings correct group All phones ring within 2 seconds
Outbound calls Caller ID shows your business name Correct on mobile + landline
Call transfer Blind + attended transfer Completes without dropping
Voicemail Message recorded, email delivered Transcription in email within 30s
Mobile app Rings on inbound, quality on outbound Reliable push notification
CRM integration Call logged automatically Contact record updated within 5s
Auto-attendant Correct menu options + routing Tested from external phone

Issues found at this stage: 8% of deployments have a minor issue (usually QoS not configured on the router or SIP ALG enabled). Our team fixes these remotely in under 30 minutes.

Hour 24-48: Training (Day 2)

30-minute group training session (video call with your team):

  • Making and receiving calls
  • Transferring calls (the #1 question)
  • Using the mobile app
  • Checking voicemail
  • Setting Do Not Disturb

Quick reference card emailed to every user — laminated version included with desk phones.

Average questions after training: 3-4 per team of 20. Usually about transfer and voicemail.

Hour 48-72: Number Porting (Day 3)

What happens: We submit the port request to move your existing phone numbers from your old provider to DialPhone. This was submitted on Day 1 but takes 5-10 business days to complete.

During porting: Your old system still works on your real numbers. The new system works on temporary numbers. Both are active simultaneously.

When the port completes: Your real numbers switch to DialPhone. Typically happens at midnight with zero disruption. You come in the next morning and everything works on the new system with your real numbers.

Day 3-14: Parallel Running

We keep your old system information on file for 14 days after porting completes. If anything unexpected happens, we can reference the old configuration.

Support during this period: Priority queue. Your calls to our support line go to the front of the queue for the first 14 days.
