šæ VANANSH - AI Tree Doctor: Empowering Local Farmers with Gemini & Open-Source AI
When it comes to agriculture, immediate and localized decision-making is critical for crop survival. Farmers, gardeners, and plant enthusiasts often face immense challenges identifying plant diseases, understanding micro-nutrient deficiencies, and calculating organic fertilizer doses in time.
I built VANANSH - AI Tree Doctorāa full-fledged botanical pathology and tree health diagnostic lab that delivers instant, accessible, and high-precision plant care for my family and local farming community.
šØāš©āš¦ Who I Built This For
I built this project specifically for my father and our local farmer community.
In our region, farmers frequently deal with severe leaf fungal infections, iron chlorosis, and viral crop diseases. However, getting quick feedback from agricultural extension officers often takes days. They needed a zero-friction tool: just upload or capture a photo of a leaf, and receive an instant diagnosis with actionable organic treatments (like Jeevamrut and Vermicompost recipes).
š ļø What I Built
VANANSH is an AI-powered Agro-Botanical Pathology Lab that runs multi-modal vision models to diagnose crop health issues.
š Core Capabilities & Features:
- Botanical Leaf Pathology: Instantly pinpoints species and identifies diseases (e.g., Powdery Mildew, Early Blight, Iron & Zinc Chlorosis, Leaf Curl Virus).
- Multi-Model Intelligence (Gemini 3.5 Flash & 3.1 Pro): Integrates Google's ultra-fast vision reasoning engines for high-accuracy botanical image processing.
- Hydration & Fertilizer Dosing: Generates precise watering cycles and organic bio-fertilizer recipes tailored to the plant's recovery stage.
- 1-Click Verified Sample Library: Pre-loaded with 6 verified agricultural cases (Mango, Tomato, Neem, Citrus, Cotton, Rose) for instant testing and evaluation.
ā” Technical Architecture & Gemini API Integration
The application is powered by Google AI Studio and Gemini API / Open-Weight AI Frameworks:
- Gemini 3.5 Flash (Standard Vision): Used for real-time, low-latency leaf identification and immediate symptom analysis directly from field photos.
- Gemini 3.1 Pro (Deep Thinking): Employed for complex, multi-symptom diagnostics (e.g., differentiating between fungal spores vs. nutrient deficiency discoloration).
- Gemini 3.1 Lite (Fast Mode): Used for lightweight dosage calculations and step-by-step organic care checklist generation.
š Why Open-Source & Open-Weight AI Matters for Farmers
For rural and agricultural adoption, closed-source or cloud-only architectures often fail due to cost, privacy, and poor connectivity. Using Google's Open AI ecosystem and Gemma/Gemini frameworks provides massive advantages:
- Data Privacy & Control: Farmers' soil, land, and crop health data remains strictly private under their control.
- Edge & Local Inference Potential: Open-weight models allow local deployment on edge hardware, enabling offline usage directly in remote farm fields.
- Zero API Friction & Cost Efficiency: Eliminates recurring pay-per-call costs for underprivileged farming communities.
