I learned not to give a fuck about the negativity and to be consistent, no matter how hard things got. I learned to laugh at my own mishaps (seriously, I could fill a stand-up routine with them 😂) and, most importantly, to keep building even when the world seemed against me. I learned to believe—in God, in myself, and in the hope that one day my parents will be proud of the path I chose.

That right there is the attitude of someone who will always continue to achieve. Bravo! I feel the pride you have in your achievements so far. I don't know you at all, and your writing makes me proud of you...

Thank you so much for your kind words Mike. I'm not that proud of myself yet but I do have the belief that I do belong in this field, and I can achieve my dreams if I'm consistent and just diligently work to better myself.

You should never stop. That's exactly what life is :)

This post made me a bit emotional (as I share some parts of the story). Not born rich (thinking money would solve all problems), failed jee advanced by 2 marks and took a admission in tier 3 college (even cracking good ranks in state govt exams).. all because I got a scholarship.

Doing btech with less money felt appropriate (yk the middle class thing). I just wanted a job that could help me support my family at the end of college... then my life became hell.

tier 3 is the place where nobody wants you to grow (except very few).

i stopped playing games, no youtube, no snapchat, no whatsapp, no linkedin, no x, no netflix or any entertainment.

i've worked from 8:30am to 4am (all because I knew college was my last chance).. still, so many things went wrong but but but.. life is good for now :)

So yeah, have faith, work hard, follow your dreams because no one else will do it for you.

not giving a fk about negativity and staying consistent, no matter how hard things get, is the best thing you (or anybody else) can do.

thank you for sharing this! 🔥 and sorry if this felt like bragging lol.

Thank you for sharing this.
Not at all, I just know you kinda hence I'm happy for you.
There's no bragging in this, it made me emotional tbh.
You deserve to achieve what you want, you've worked hard for it.
Also, I 'm glad it resonated with you(or maybe not, it's all sad 😅)

Thank you for this message.

Impostor Syndrome seems baked into the profession honestly.

While I might not have aimed as high as you in the curricular sphere, I do have 10+ years doing professional web development.

I have every privilege granted to me as a cis het white man... even then... it bites us all the same I think.

AI leaving the horizon to approach faster and faster is also worrisome, maybe not in the semi-long run as the market will have to adjust to wanting things done but realizing the limitations of not only Gen AI...but of people that know of little but how to prompt.

Keep your head up!

May I ask for clarification for this part- While I might not have aimed as high as you in the curricular sphere, I do have 10+ years doing professional web development.
Is it related to my degree?

Also, thank you so much for your insightful message, and yes,it's dangerous- the state of many of these "coders".

Also, everyone has their own problems, it can vary, but everyone has them. Also, it's not an easy field as well.

Thank you.

Hahaha yes, that's what I meant.

I graduated secondary school in a small town in Sweden, focusing on IT but... you know... I wouldn't assume that I have gone through anywhere near the stresses and sacrifices you've had to make to earn good grades in a modern software engineering education.

As a Mechanical Engineering student from a Tier 3 college myself, I can relate to your journey. I left mechanical engineering to pursue web development, learned PHP, and became a WordPress developer. I am now a successful freelancer. Looking back, I don't even recall why I chose mechanical engineering instead of Computer Science. The future is indeed uncertain.

May I just say that I'm proud of you. Like you'd a completely different branch, and still you were brave enough to persue another path, and then you even succeeded in it.
