Git and GitHub are the industry standard for version control software, however since their developments in 2005 and 2007 respectively they have seen use for different purposes. According to Wired and readwrite Git and particularly GitHub have been used for surprising collaborations, at times almost like social media such as Facebook or Twitter.
From sharing blogging to musical compositions, to fixing spelling mistakes in wedding invitations and even legal documents for Twitter employees. GitHub has seen uses that surpass version control between project partners. Some of these uses allow people to collaborate, connect and in help each other on a global scale.
It is evident that Git and GitHub have found a niche that surpasses their original functionality as version control software and into a positive community that is willing to share and learn together. Becoming a part of this community is the real way to utilize both Git and GitHub to their fullest potential.
