Hello Dev Community!
I’m Dom. I’m retired, but I’ve fallen head over heels for web development. After spending the last few months diving deep into Laravel, I’ve finally pushed my very first project live.
I’d love to get your expert eyes on it.
🛠The Project: Training-API
I built training-api.dev as a dedicated sandbox for developers who want to practice fetching and managing real data.
The Goal: A safe space to learn how to interact with APIs using real users and data.
The Tech: Built with Laravel and hosted on Laravel Cloud.
The Status: This is Version 1. It’s simple, it’s a "learning build," but it’s mine!
🎓 What I learned
Building this wasn't just about the code; it was about understanding the Laravel ecosystem, handling API authentication, and managing deployments. Every bug was a lesson.
💬 I need your feedback!
Since I’m doing this for the love of craft rather than a job, your professional feedback is my "salary."
How is the UX/UI for a first project?
Are there specific API features you think a beginner should practice that I'm missing?
Any tips for a "young" developer in a retired body?
Check it out here: www.training-api.dev
Thank you for welcoming me into the community. I can’t wait to read your thoughts and start working on V2!
