What We Learned After Hundreds of Conversations with Entrepreneurs

When you start building a new product, it’s easy to believe the hardest part is writing the code, designing the architecture, or deciding which features to include.

In reality, we discovered something very different.

The most important improvements to Droplox didn’t come from internal meetings or product planning sessions. They came from conversations with entrepreneurs who work in e-commerce every single day.

Over the past several months, we’ve had hundreds of those conversations. Some lasted ten minutes. Others went on for more than an hour. People shared their experiences, talked about mistakes they’d made, explained what had worked well, and described the challenges they face every day.

Over time, we noticed something interesting.

Many of the problems we thought were the most important weren’t the ones entrepreneurs were actually worried about.

The Conversation Almost Never Starts with Technology

To be honest, we expected something completely different.

It seemed logical that most discussions would revolve around artificial intelligence, automation, or new platform features.

That rarely happened.

Instead of asking about AI, people talked about losing time switching between different applications, dealing with order errors, struggling with suppliers, or simply feeling exhausted by the amount of manual work at the end of each day.

And only then would they ask:

“Will this make my work simpler?”

Not faster.

Not more advanced.

Simply simpler.

Over time, we realized that this question mattered far more than any discussion about new technology.

Entrepreneurs Don’t Need Another Tool

Another observation came up so often that it stopped feeling like a coincidence.

Almost nobody told us they needed another software solution.

In fact, it was exactly the opposite.

Most businesses already have tools for almost everything—analytics, order management, product management, supplier communication, and team collaboration.

The real problem was something else.

All of those tools exist separately.

Each one is useful on its own, but together they create an endless cycle of switching between applications, copying information, and manually checking data.

During one conversation, an entrepreneur said something our entire team still remembers:

“I don’t need another platform. I need a reason to close a few of the old ones.”

That was probably the moment we fully realized that the market doesn’t suffer from a lack of software.

There are already plenty of tools.

What’s missing is connection between them.

The Simpler the Work Becomes, the More Valuable the Product

There’s always a temptation to keep adding new features.

Early in product development, it’s easy to assume that’s exactly what users want.

But those conversations gradually changed our perspective.

Almost nobody asked us to make the platform more complicated.

Instead, entrepreneurs consistently talked about wanting to spend less time on routine work.

Sometimes improving a small workflow creates far more value than introducing an entirely new feature.

Today, we ask ourselves a different question.

Not:

“What else can we add?”

But:

“What can we remove to make the experience simpler?”

Entrepreneurs Have a Surprisingly Balanced View of AI

Public conversations often create the impression that artificial intelligence is supposed to replace people entirely.

We rarely encountered that mindset when speaking with entrepreneurs.

Most people see AI as a capable assistant.

If it can gather information more quickly, identify patterns, prepare analytics, or highlight potential risks—that’s valuable.

But they still want to make the final decision themselves.

And the more important the decision, the more they want to understand why AI reached a particular recommendation.

That’s why transparency has become far more important to us than impressive technology demonstrations.

The Biggest Problem Isn’t AI at All
There was one challenge we seriously underestimated.

We assumed entrepreneurs were primarily concerned about product research, analytics, or demand forecasting.

Instead, the most common problem turned out to be much more ordinary.

Information is scattered everywhere.

Some data lives inside a CRM.

Some is buried in spreadsheets.

Some exists in email conversations or chat messages.

Other pieces sit inside analytics platforms.

As a result, a significant portion of the workday isn’t spent growing the business.

It’s spent trying to assemble a complete picture from disconnected information.

People mentioned this challenge far more often than they talked about artificial intelligence.

How Those Conversations Changed Droplox

Those discussions changed more of our product than we expected.

Some ideas that seemed obvious inside our team never made it into the platform.

Others had to be redesigned completely.

In several cases, we started entire workflows from scratch after hearing similar feedback from multiple entrepreneurs.

Perhaps the biggest change wasn’t the interface.

It was our own mindset.

Today, we think much less about the number of features we can add.

Instead, we focus on a much simpler question.

Did we actually save the user time?

If the answer is no, it doesn’t matter how advanced the technology looks.

What We Took Away from These Conversations

The longer we work on Droplox, the more convinced we become of one simple idea.

Great products rarely emerge entirely from inside a company.

They take shape through dozens—or even hundreds—of conversations with the people who will eventually use them every day.

That’s why we continue collecting feedback, asking questions, and listening carefully to entrepreneurs.

Not because it’s considered best practice.

But because those conversations consistently lead to better product decisions.

And, most likely, they’ll continue shaping what Droplox becomes after it leaves Closed Beta.
