Eligibility Should Be Part of the Product Architecture

In many applications, access control means deciding whether a user can open a page.

Technical platforms require something more precise.

A user may be allowed to view educational content but not complete an operational activity. Another may have finished the required training but still need identity verification or certification before becoming eligible.

This means access depends on state, not only on role.

A simplified eligibility check might include:
Identity verified

  • Security enabled
  • Training completed
  • Certification active
  • Activity available = Eligible access These conditions should be evaluated before an activity begins. The interface should also explain which requirement is missing instead of displaying a generic error.

This produces a safer and more understandable experience. It also prevents users from confusing account access with operational eligibility.

Voltalix is developing its participation flow around this type of conditional access. Training, certification, security requirements and activity availability can form part of the journey before a participant enters a defined SCADA-oriented task.
