#Windows – Show your camera 🎦 in full screen mode in Windows (thanks VLC!)

Hi!

I will write this post, only to save me some time for the next time that I need to do this.

The goal is simple: show a camera feed in Windows 11 (or W10, or older) in full screen mode.

I’m sure there are other ways to do this, however, this is the one I’m using, and I’m super happy with this.

Open a Local Camera / Capture Device

1st let’s download and install VLC (link).

In VLC menu, select Media // Open Capture Device.

in VLC menu, select Media // Open Capture Device

Select the camera from the video device name options.

Select the camera from the video device name options.

I’m guessing that your camera will be in 16:9 format, we need to do an extra step to make it work. Select Advanced Options a nd change the format from 4:3 to 16:9.

select Advanced Options, and change the format from 4:3 to 16:9

And that’s it! Now we have a camera feed in VLC.

Finally, double click and we have the camera in full screen mode!

Accessing Network Cameras

Bonus: We can also use VLC to connect and show the feed of a remote camera via UDP, HTTP, RTSP, and more!

To do this, we need to access the camera using the Network option.

Open a network camera using the Network option.

Simple tip, and useful for different scenarios!

Happy coding!

Greetings
