The AWS Certified AI Practitioner (AIF-C01) exam is a basic-level certification that tests your knowledge of AI and machine learning principles in the AWS environment. This test is an excellent way to get started whether you're moving into AI jobs or building your cloud skills.
What the Test Covers
The AIF-C01 test is all about:
- AI/ML basics: words, the lifecycle, and moral issues
- AWS AI/ML services include Bedrock, Lex, Comprehend, Rekognition, and SageMaker.
- Prompt engineering, fine-tuning, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) are all ways to customize a model.
- Metrics for performance include accuracy, precision, recall, F1 score, ROUGE, BLEU, and perplexity.
The passing score is 700 out of 1000, and the exam is still in beta. People who pass before February 15, 2025, will get an Early Adopter badge.
Things I think will help you study:
I used a mix of official and community materials to get ready:
AWS Skill Builder: A standard prep course with sets of practice questions
Udemy course by Stéphane Maarek: Good for learning in a structured way
AWS Machine Learning Lens: To learn about the many stages of the ML lifecycle
Flashcards from Quizlet: A quick review of the main ideas
TestPrepTraining Practice Test: Questions that are specific to AIF-C01

Top Topics to Master:
1. The life cycle of machine learning
Get to know the order of the phases:
Data acquisition → Feature engineering → Model training → Evaluation → Deployment Know which AWS technologies can help with each step, such SageMaker Data Wrangler and AWS Glue.
2. Options for customizing the model
Services that are hosted (like Comprehend and Rekognition)
Models that have already been trained (Bedrock, JumpStart)
Fine-tuning vs. prompt engineering Find out what makes domain adaptation different from instruction-based fine-tuning.
3. Settings
Epochs, Batch Size, and Learning Rate are hyperparameters.
Inference parameters: Temperature, Top K, Top P
4. Tools for SageMaker
Know about SageMaker Studio, Clarify, JumpStart, Ground Truth, Feature Store, Model Monitor, and Model Cards.
5. Measurements
Know when to use:
Accuracy, Precision, Recall, and F1 Score (for categorization)
ROUGE, BLEU, and Perplexity (generation) Understand bias vs. variance and how to interpret model performance.
Sources: Tips for Making a Good Exam Strategy
- Mark questions that are hard to understand and come back to them later.
- Get rid of the bad choices to raise your chances.
- Pay close attention — AWS likes to use sophisticated language.
- It's a 90-minute test, so stay cool and plan your time.
