This trip to Dubai taught me that capturing views from the water is a fantastic way to get photos that stand out from the typical tourist snapshots.

While cruising, you can capture the city skyline, the coastline, and the open sea all at once, creating a much more expansive composition than standard street-level views. The scenery is particularly striking when passing near Palm Jumeirah, where the man-made island and the surrounding waters form a beautiful composition.

Photos taken in the afternoon sunlight have a distinct vacation vibe, while the shifting colors of the sky at dusk create a completely different atmosphere.

When I went through my photos later, I realized that my favorites weren't the ones taken at popular tourist attractions, but rather the candid shots captured right there on the yacht's deck.
