Dealing with Rejection After Applying to Hundreds of Jobs

Recently, I went through two interviews and a technical test, only to receive an email saying the hiring process was paused. I’m unsure whether it’...

Great article. Looking forward to the next one 🙌

The only thing I would be careful about is taking advice from Andrew Tate. I don't want to tell you what to do, and the lesson you learned is a valid one indeed, but he is a known misogynist and demagogue.

well said 👏 not very surprising the author still hasn't got a job considering he is taking advice from someone who has been charged with being a human trafficking rapist who formed an organised crime group to sexually exploit women 😂

Thank you, Drazen.

Well, I don't know Andrew Tate to be that, what I know is I've been learning a lot from the insights he shares.

Even I have not joined any jobs since now I am pushing myself to focus on what I can control like upskilling myself and keep sharing with people who will be helped . The motivation here is Every time we will not be success .Sometimes we will fail to learn and improve ourself. Keep it up buddy . You will make it happen. Be motivated and keep motivating others. 🙌

Keep working hard, Ekemini,
Your post reminds me of when I went out to create Resume Matcher for this purpose.

Rejection is a form of energy. As Albert Einstein said: "Energy cannot be created or destroyed, but can be transformed from one form to another"

Exactly Ekemini, the only way to grow (or win) is to try hard.

It’s really hard when nothing seems to work but the only option is to keep moving forward.

I’ve been through those low moments too so I understand very well. Stay strong and work hard.

It's comforting to know that I'm not alone on this. Dealing with rejection after applying to countless jobs can be disheartening, but focusing on what we can control is key,, we can turn rejection into the energy that propels us forward.

Thanks for your contribution.

What part of the Stoicism philosophy are you referring to?

Henrique Arantes Ferreira • Edited
  1. Focus on What You Can Control:

    • “Focusing on what you can control is key. It’s far more productive and healthy to keep taking action rather than dwelling on what hasn’t happened.”
    • This is classic Stoicism—don’t stress about things outside your control (like getting the job). Just focus on what you can do, like learning and improving.
  2. Win or Learn Mindset:

    • “Adopt a 'Win or Learn' mindset... Each setback teaches me something new.”
    • Stoics see failures or rejections as a way to learn. It’s like saying, “Even if things don’t go my way, I’ll still gain something from it.” That’s the Stoic way of turning problems into opportunities.
  3. Reflect and Get Feedback:

    • “I often ask myself: are there things I should start or stop doing?”
    • Stoicism is all about reflecting on your actions and being smart about when to change things up. It’s about being practical and adjusting when necessary.
  4. Being Present and Celebrating Small Wins:

    • “Be present and celebrate small wins... reflecting on your achievements can give you motivation.”
    • Stoics encourage appreciating what’s happening now instead of always worrying about the future. Celebrating little wins keeps you grounded and motivated.
  5. Using Rejection as Energy:

    • “Instead of letting rejection bring you down, use it as energy to become better.”
    • Stoics believe that setbacks don’t need to be negative—you can turn them into fuel to improve yourself. It’s like saying, “If life throws me lemons, I’m gonna make lemonade and keep moving.”

These are all Stoic vibes—focusing on your response, learning from tough moments, and keeping a positive outlook even when things don’t go your way.

Great one man.

We will keep failing forward until we achieve our dreams. I believe that as we keep working hard, it will only be a matter of time - It will not be "if I win", but "when".

I would also reiterate that you should be careful about taking advice from Andrew Tate and then publishing this on a blog post. You are aware that he has been charged with rape, human trafficking and forming an organised crime group to sexually exploit women?

I think part of the problem is applying to too many jobs at once.
Hundreds over the span of a few months is way way to much.
Start with like 3 at companies you like but that are not your top priority - just to practice
Then if you didn't get a role there - continue focusing on your most favorite companies

See - if companies get overwhelmed with applications they are in a way stronger position to choose. If they only get very few applications they have to think twice before rejecting you.
Of course that only works when all devs step back on over-applying but you should be part of the solution and spread the word

Also - if you're being laid off after short time - find a way to - legally (so don't lie etc.) shame those companies publicly (while you stay anonymous so you don't ruin your own reputation). Everyone in the city should know what they act like.

I won't comment on Andrew Tate as others did this already

I appreciate the focus on learning from experiences, but I find it troubling to reference figures like Andrew Tate. His views and actions towards women are harmful and not suitable sources of inspiration. It's crucial to seek guidance from individuals who promote respect and equality instead.
