# Preface:
This is the fifth book I've read this year. It's a very new book (published at the end of December last year), and the content is also very new. It fully explains the basic things you need to know about the metaverse and the digital economy. And also from the perspective of Koreans (because many examples use services that are popular in Korea), it also brings many technologies and related elements needed for the development of the metaverse. It explains with very concise text and simple content, and is accompanied by QR-codes to find many related videos or commercial websites to supplement the explanation. Those who want to quickly supplement the metaverse and understand the scope of related applications can quickly complete it through this book.
# Content Introduction and Thoughts:
Imagine, no more having to go out early and come back late, as long as you put on a device at home and connect to the internet, you can enter a lifelike virtual world with a virtual avatar and complete the whole day's schedule, how convenient would that be?
In the virtual world, we can go to clothing stores to precisely try on and customize clothes, without fear of stepping on landmines or wearing the same clothes; we can also go to the bank to apply for various virtual currency services from the teller, saving time queuing; we can also attend the opening or graduation ceremonies of relatives and friends, and order congratulatory cakes to be delivered to our homes; we can even invite friends to watch a ball game or listen to a concert, and enjoy a super immersive experience together in our respective homes.
A life that seems to only exist in games is the new era we are welcoming.
The metaverse is not just a virtual world similar to games, but is about to break the framework of reality and completely change people
## Chapter List

Chapter 2 The Evolution of "Connection" Will Subvert Everything
Chapter 3 What is the Metaverse?
Chapter 4 A Second to Understand the History of the Metaverse
Chapter 5 Various Attempts to Move Towards the Metaverse
Chapter 6 The Core Technologies of the Metaverse and the Difficulties to Overcome
Chapter 7 The New Future Created by the Metaverse
Chapter 8 The Virtual Economic Era Created by the Metaverse
Chapter 9 Are You a Level One Player?
Here's a quick summary of a few key points:
What is the biggest development of the internet? It is through "Hyperlink" to easily transmit information to those who need it (connecting each other). This is the world of Web 1.0, where many people connect with each other through the internet, whether it's social networks (Social Network) or the IOT (Internet Of Things) that connects devices together, it's all an evolution of connection.
The Metaverse originated from Neal Stephenson's science fiction novel Snow Crash, which also saw the first appearance of Avatar. The protagonist Hiro is a Korean-American mixed-race, and in reality, he is a pizza delivery guy. But he is a warrior and hero in the metaverse of the internet world. And to enter the Metaverse, you must create your own Avatar.
### **Seven Core Elements of the Metaverse:**
- Connect to the internet
- Connect to reality (can be virtual or copied), but composed of digital
- Can share and interact with other users.
- Can exist through different identities
- Time does not stop physically
- May require multiple input devices to join
- A parallel world based on the digital virtual economy
### Why CyWorld didn't become the Metaverse?
CyWorld is a Korean version of MySpace, with virtual characters and their own homes. Korea even defeated MySpace's CyWorld because of the emergence of competitors, and after the merger, there was no better integration.
### Can Second Life become the Metaverse?
Second Life (LindenWorld) became popular through its open design and has "Linden Dollars", with a total monthly expenditure of over five million US dollars. Second Life has always been called one of the founders of the metaverse, but this book raises some shortcomings:
- Lack of a user-friendly experience, excessive freedom leads to a complex interface
- Lack of phased goals
- Low immersion
- No mobile version
- Premature commercialization, resulting in a smaller community of its own preference
### Other game-related metaverses
- Pokémon Go
- Animal Crossing
- Minecraft
- Roblox
### Stories of various VR/AR related metaverses
- Google Glass
- Magic Leap
- Oculus and why Facebook acquired it
### Various companies related to the Metaverse
- Nvidia and the Metaverse
- Microsoft's Mesh platform
### Various Metaverse technologies needed
- Sensors: various dynamic sensing or input devices
- Optical displays: AR/VR glasses
- Spatial audio: greatly enhances immersion through sound
- Cameras and LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging: that is, through optics to detect depth and three-dimensional images)
- Game (image) rendering engines Unity / Unreal
### The future of various metaverses in various industries
- Retail industry uses the metaverse to try on clothes and virtual furniture
- Media industry provides more comprehensive and immersive news content
- Sports industry provides a better viewing experience
- Online education industry due to the pandemic
- Digital medicine and virtual surgery
- Digital Twin:
- That is, through digital AR/VR to generate simulated situations, which can be applied to both factories and manufacturing industries.
### Metaverse and Cryptocurrency Economy
- NFT
- GameFi
# Thoughts
This book has a complete compilation of many related contents, with complete data collection and analysis on many aspects of the metaverse. Although it is a very recent book, I was worried that the content would be rushed. But after reading it, I feel that the content of the whole book is quite substantial. It also supplements some of my related commercial applications, and also analyzes many industries and related content that I may not be familiar with. For those who really want to understand the metaverse, I highly recommend this one.
