Preface:
Listening to podcasts has been one of my interests for several years. Besides helping me learn new things during my commute, some interesting topics recently have also kept me laughing during my commute.
However, I recently found that the built-in Podcast app on iOS isn't that user-friendly, and the MacOSX version (let's not mention iTunes) is even worse. I had to look for other podcast software to switch to.
Recently Switched Podcast Software: Overcast
Ever since I found other podcast apps I haven't used Apple's built-in one https://t.co/pJrdLUYmIw

Mainly because of the discussion in this tweet, I learned about the features of Overcast (already knew about it?). There are two features I highly recommend:
- Smart speed: Automatically removes silent parts, allowing the playback speed to adjust intelligently.
- Voice Boost: The sound also becomes louder, and it's quite clear after trying it for a few days.
Comparing it with the built-in iOS Podcast app:
- Overcast can also be listened to online, allowing you to sync your current listening status on MacOS.
- iOS Podcast's short note display has been strongly criticized, not following the original format at all.
- iOS automatically downloads all the latest episodes, while Overcast defaults to downloading the latest ones, and requires a paid membership for more storage space.
Recommended Podcasts
Actually, the biggest problem with listening to podcasts should be "how to find your favorite channels?". I highly recommend trying Castbox. There are many recommended channels inside.
Recommended Overseas Podcasts
- Go time: A Silicon Valley podcast about Golang, with interviews of many senior or very talented engineers.
- Google Cloud Platform podcast: The main content is GCP promotion, but there is a lot of useful content.
- Kubernetes Podcast from Google: K8S official podcast with recent news and some feature introductions and interviews.
Recommended Domestic Podcasts
- 頂樓加蓋: A podcast by Affe and Denny, with a lot of interesting content. Also very funny.
- weak self: Content from three iOS engineers, also discussing Animal Crossing and other topics that engineers would talk about, quite interesting.
- 冒牌者症候群の下班時間: Content hosted by Badu Huang, with diverse content. Topics include 30-year-olds, marriage, having children, or changing fields.
- 三宅一聲: Content managed by three industry KOLs, you can listen to it.
