In this tutorial, we will guide you to learn how to use Excel NORM.DIST Function in Office 365 with its syntax, explanation, and examples. Get an official version of MS Excel from the following link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/microsoft-365/excel

NORM.DIST Function – Explanation:

  • This function returns the normal distribution for the specified mean and standard deviation.
  • NORM.DIST Function returns values for the normal probability density function (PDF), normal cumulative distribution function (CDF).
  • You can find the mean using the AVERAGE Function and find the standard deviation using the STDEV Function.

Syntax:

=NORM.DIST(x,mean, standard_dev, cumulative)

Arguments Explanation:

*x – * It is the input value to which you want to find the distribution.

*Mean – * The arithmetic mean of the distribution.

*Standard_dev – * It is the standard deviation of the distribution.

Cumulative – ** The boolean value that represents the form of the function. If it is **TRUE , this function returns the cumulative distribution function (CDF). If it is FALSE , it returns the probability density function (PDF).

Note:

  • If the argument mean or standard_dev is non-numeric values such as letters , and symbols , then this function returns #VALUE! Error.
  • If standard_dev is less than or equal to 0 , then it returns #NUM! Error.

Examples:

Let’s see some examples to understand this concept easily.

Example 1:

  • In the below screenshot, you can see the input ranges in Column B & E ** and its **mean value is given in Cell I4, the standard deviation is given in Cell I5.
  • The CDF values are displayed in Column C , PDF values are printed in Column F.

Example 2:

  • If the argument mean or standard_dev is non-numeric values such as letters , and symbols , then this function returns #VALUE! Error.

Example 3:

  • If standard_dev is less than or equal to 0 , then it returns #NUM! Error.

From the above examples, you can clearly learn how to find CDF and PDF values using NORM.DIST Function.
