The announced joint scope
SRNL and 3D Systems announced an additive-manufacturing CRADA on August 27, 2026. Its joint areas include materials development, equipment enhancements, AI/ML-enabled process optimization, manufacturing systems, cybersecurity, and workforce training.
Named materials and component candidates
The releases name high-temperature nickel-based superalloys and other radiation-tolerant materials, along with heat exchangers containing internal cooling channels, reactor internals, pumps, and valves. SRNL says additive manufacturing can produce complex advanced-alloy components that are difficult or impossible to make conventionally.
Development directions and current boundary
3D Systems describes real-time process-optimization tools and scalable-production solutions as development directions. The releases do not report a radiation-test result, qualified component performance, production yield, or measured cost saving from this agreement.
Questions for a later technical release
The following are EyeContact’s proposed checkpoints. They are not results established by the agreement:
- Material and component: whether a named alloy and candidate component are identified together
- Development result: whether a process-optimization or equipment-enhancement result and comparison criterion are disclosed
- Part evidence: whether a test result for a named component is disclosed
These details would let readers compare the announced development directions with later part-specific evidence.
The current boundary
The releases confirm the collaboration, installed 3D Systems equipment and supporting expertise at the Advanced Manufacturing Collaborative, and the candidate materials and parts. Those are the present facts against which a later update can be compared.
