What construction technology actually gives field teams better visibility?

A lot of construction technology discussions focus on BIM, AI, drones, or project-management software, but I’m curious about something more operational:

How are commercial construction teams getting reliable, real-time visibility into what is actually happening on the jobsite?

There are several pieces involved:

Workforce presence and movement
Equipment and tool utilization
Material location and availability
Site access and contractor activity
Installation and work-in-place progress
Safety and compliance data
Schedule and productivity information

The challenge seems to be that these data sources often live in separate systems. A project may have BIM data in one place, equipment information somewhere else, access-control records elsewhere, and field updates coming through manual processes.

Technologies such as RFID, BLE, UWB, GPS, LoRaWAN, computer vision, and edge computing can potentially connect some of these pieces. But the technology itself isn't necessarily the hard part.

The harder questions seem to be:

What information is genuinely useful to a superintendent or project manager?
Which tracking technologies work reliably in large, changing construction environments?
How do teams avoid creating another stream of data that nobody has time to manage?
Can jobsite data actually feed project controls, BIM, ERP, or scheduling workflows?
Where does automation provide measurable value versus simply adding complexity?

I'm particularly interested in experiences from people who have actually implemented connected-jobsite technology.
