I help at a community desk two evenings a week. People bring USB sticks with school forms, job packets, and rental applications. The machines are locked down. No Adobe install. No “create an account with your personal email” speech I feel good giving.
So I stopped recommending tools that gate the download behind a signup. The test is simple: can you finish the file and leave without leaving a password behind?

What I tell people before they upload
- Only put files on the shared PC that they are allowed to process.
- Close the tab when they are done. Clear downloads if the desk policy says so.
- Keep a master copy on their own drive. Shared machines are messy.
Scanned homework is the hard case. Those pages are pictures of paper. You can cover areas and stamp new text, but you are not rewriting the original handwriting the way Word rewrites a paragraph. For long rewrites I send them to PDF to Word, edit there, then export PDF again.
