My team and I are currently building Mailcoach, a self-hosted solution to easily send out newsletters and email campaigns. In this video, I live code a new small feature.

This video was created unrehearsed and I didn't make any edits. So you can see every mistake that I made along the way.

Together with Mailcoach, we'll release a video course on how to use Mailcoach, and how it was built. We'll also include some videos on how to write clean, maintainable code. There will be something to learn for everyone, whether you're starting with Laravel, or you already have some years of experience under your belt.

Of course, I will rehearse before recording these videos and will edit them afterward, so the pace is a bit higher than the video above.

To get notified when Mailcoach and the video course launch, sign up for the email list at https://mailcoach.app.

Why we are building Mailcoach

You might wonder why we are building Mailcoach. Some of the well-known newsletter marketing services can cost quite a lot when your email list grows. Some charge $99 a month for a list that has a few thousand subscribers.

Mailcoach will leverage email sending services like Amazon SES, Mailgun, and SendGrid to send out emails. These services only charge a couple of dollars for tens of thousands of emails. And they do not require you to include a self-promoting image.

It's perfectly fine to use these services to send transactional emails as long as you take care of your reputation. Mailcoach does that by automatically unsubscribing hard bounces and complaints.
