Beyond the Turing Test: AI and LLM Cognitive Profile

The article analyzes the loss of diagnostic power of the Turing Test in the face of the development of Large Language Models (LLMs), which can effectively imitate human conversational behaviors without possessing a human cognitive architecture. The author points to research results in which models such as GPT-4.5 achieve a high level of indistinguishability from humans, shifting the weight of the debate from the question of intelligence itself to an analysis of the mechanisms of its production. In response to this problem, Douglas Hofstadter's concepts and the FARG program are cited, proposing the replacement of a single test with so-called scattering experiments. This approach aims to study the structure of the system's reactions in diverse, atypical situations, allowing for a better understanding of AI's actual cognitive profile and distinguishing superficial imitation from deep competence.
