Calibrated Agency and the Algorithmic Human in Medicine

The article analyzes the transformation of the patient model in the face of medical digitalization and the development of AI. The author distinguishes three coexisting figures: the patient subordinated to the doctor's authority (Parsons' model), the reflective prosumer managing health online, and the algorithmic subject whose decisions are shaped by computational systems and choice architecture. The text refers to Anthony Giddens' theory of reflexive modernity, indicating that contemporary health has become an element of the 'reflexive project of the self.' In this process, data from wearables or AI systems do not only describe the state of the body but actively modify the individual's behavior and identity, shifting the center of gravity from traditional autonomy toward agency calibrated by algorithms.
