The article analyzes the concept of polycrisis – a situation in which mutually reinforcing threats (climate, technological, demographic) force a shift from piecemeal management to systemic management. Drawing on Bob Garratt's book, the author argues that modern boards can no longer separate the company's internal world from the external one. He criticizes the dogma of profit maximization (shareholder supremacy) and superficial virtue signaling, advocating instead for balancing three types of capital and a deep analysis of geopolitical and ethical dependencies. In a world of complex feedback loops, board professionalization becomes an essential element of strategic hygiene, allowing companies to avoid costly mistakes resulting from a simplified perception of risk and business responsibility.
