Treat a concurrent player count as a time-series observation. Store a UTC timestamp and the source’s stated platform coverage alongside each value. A dashboard can then show the most recent observation, its age, and the history without confusing a snapshot with a monthly total.
For ingestion, make each sample idempotent using the source and observation time as a key. Mark failed fetches as missing; writing zero would create a misleading drop. Check the provider’s methodology before presenting estimates as facts.
