If you've ever attempted the Fight Caves in Old School RuneScape, you know the feeling: 90 minutes of grinding through 62 waves, heart pounding, palms sweating — and then you miss one prayer switch, and it's all over. I died six times before I got my first Fire Cape. Six times. Each failure cost me millions in supplies and hours of my time. But here's the thing: every death taught me something. And after attempt #7, I walked out with my cape. Now I'm going to share exactly what I changed. The #1 Mistake Most Players Make They overthink Jad. The TzTok-Jad fight is simple — two attacks, two prayer switches. But 90% of players fail because they panic. They forget the sound cues. They click the wrong prayer. They try to attack AND pray AND drink potions all at once. Here's the secret: Only focus on prayer switching. Nothing else matters. Budget Setup That Works (Under 5M GP) You don't need a 50M setup. Here's what I used: Weapon: Toxic Blowpipe with Amethyst darts (~2.5M) Helm: Archer Helm (free from quest) Body: Blessed D'hide Body (~500K) Legs: Blessed D'hide Chaps (~400K) Neck: Amulet of Fury (~3M) Cape: Ava's Accumulator (free) Gloves: Barrows Gloves (free) Ring: Archers Ring (i) (~3M) Boots: Blessed Boots (~200K) Total cost: roughly 3 to 5 million GP. You can go even cheaper with Black D'hide if you're on a tight budget. Inventory That Got Me Through • 8 Saradomin Brews (4) • 4 Super Restores (4) • 16 Prayer Potions (4) • 1 Ranging Potion • 2500+ Amethyst darts • 100 Dragon darts (swap in for Jad only) Pro tip: Always drink 1 Brew followed by 1 Super Restore. Never spam Brews — your Ranged stat drops to zero and you lose all your damage. The 3 Rules That Saved My Attempts Rule 1: Kill Bats First (Waves 1-30) Tz-Kih bats drain your prayer. Kill them immediately on every wave. This single change saved me more prayer potions than any gear upgrade ever could. Rule 2: Italy Rock Is Your Best Friend The Italy Rock safespot makes the Fight Caves 10 times easier. Hug the west side of the rock — melee enemies get stuck behind it while you range them safely. Rule 3: Protect from Magic After Wave 30 From Wave 31 onward, keep Protect from Magic active permanently. The Ket-Zek mages hit for massive damage. One misclick without prayer and you eat 40+ damage. How to Beat Jad (The Part You're Here For) Wave 63. Jad spawns. Here's your script: 1. Listen, don't look. Jad has a distinct sound for his Magic attack — a charging "whoosh" that starts before the fireball appears. Learn this sound and you'll never miss a switch again. 2. One action per Jad attack. Attack Jad once, wait for his next attack, switch prayer if needed, then attack again. Never rush. 3. When Healers spawn: Tag each one once, then line them up behind Jad. Only one Healer can attack you at a time. 4. If you miss a prayer switch: Do not panic. Eat a Brew — it heals 16 HP. You can survive one hit. Prayer Switch Quick Reference Jad has three attacks. You need to watch his body language: • If Jad lifts his legs high and slams down, that's Melee. Use Protect from Melee. This is rare — only happens if you're standing next to him. • If Jad leans back and a fireball appears above his head, that's Magic. Use Protect from Magic. This is the most common attack. • If Jad attacks quickly with no windup animation, that's Ranged. Use Protect from Missiles. Most of the fight you'll be alternating between Protect from Magic and Protect from Missiles. The sound cue for Magic is your most reliable indicator. What I'd Tell My Past Self Looking back at my 6 failed attempts, here's what I wish someone had told me: • Your first attempt will fail. That's completely normal. The Fight Caves is a learning experience. • Budget gear is perfectly fine. 5 million GP is enough. Do not wait for best-in-slot items. • Brews are better than sharks. The Defence boost from Brews matters more than raw hitpoints. • Practice Jad in the Nightmare Zone. It's not the same as the real fight, but it builds prayer switching muscle memory. Your Turn The Fire Cape is one of the most rewarding achievements in OSRS. It is not about having the best gear — it is about staying calm, listening for the sound cues, and trusting the strategy above. If you follow this guide and still fail? Try again. I did. Seven times. And on attempt number 7, I walked out with a Fire Cape on my back. Ready for the complete Fight Caves guide with wave-by-wave walkthrough and advanced Jad strategies?
