Former Meta Engineer Says Zuckerberg Put Growth Ahead of Child Safety

Former Meta engineering director Arturo Béjar has testified that Mark Zuckerberg prioritized growth and user engagement over child safety on Facebook and Instagram.

Béjar said Meta knew teenagers were encountering harmful experiences but did not respond strongly enough. He also questioned the company’s historical approach to identifying children under 13 using its platforms.

Meta disputes the allegations and says it has introduced stronger protections for teenagers, including Teen Accounts, parental controls, stricter content settings, and age-assurance technology.

The testimony is part of broader litigation involving 29 U.S. state attorneys general.

The trial is ongoing, and the allegations have not resulted in a final ruling.
