Google Play Adds Venmo as a New Payment Option

Google Play is giving Android users in the United States another way to pay for digital content.

With Venmo being added as a payment option, users can connect their accounts and use the service for eligible apps, games, subscriptions, and other digital purchases.

Once connected, users may be able to pay using their Venmo balance or other funding sources linked to their account.

The addition expands Google Play's existing range of payment methods and could make purchases more convenient for people who already use Venmo for everyday transactions.

The update also comes at a time when spending on mobile apps and games continues to grow. Worldwide in-app purchase spending across Google Play and Apple's App Store exceeded $167 billion in 2025, according to Sensor Tower data cited in the original report.

As digital spending increases, giving users more familiar and flexible ways to pay could become increasingly important for app stores.

Will digital wallets eventually become the preferred payment method for mobile purchases?
