Stripe is expanding further into AI infrastructure with its agreement to acquire OpenRouter.
OpenRouter gives developers a unified way to access and route requests across more than 400 AI models from over 80 providers.
The deal could help Stripe connect payments and billing infrastructure with the growing need to track AI usage, manage costs, route model requests, and support usage-based pricing.
Stripe has not publicly disclosed the acquisition price. External reports estimate the transaction at roughly $7.5 billion to more than $8 billion.
Stripe also says OpenRouter will continue operating as an open platform.
