Stripe could be making one of its biggest moves into AI infrastructure yet.
The payments company is reportedly preparing to acquire OpenRouter for more than $7 billion.
OpenRouter operates as a gateway that lets developers and businesses access hundreds of AI models through one platform instead of creating separate integrations with individual providers.
That flexibility is becoming increasingly valuable as companies look for ways to compare and switch between AI models based on price, performance, and specific tasks.
The reported valuation is also striking.
OpenRouter was valued at around $1.3 billion following a $113 million Series B funding round in May. A transaction exceeding $7 billion would represent a dramatic increase in value within just a few months.
Stripe has not publicly confirmed the reported acquisition.
If the deal happens, it could demonstrate just how valuable the infrastructure connecting businesses with AI models has become.
