Getting your first YouTube channel monetized could soon become more difficult.
YouTube is raising the requirements for new creators who want to join the YouTube Partner Program and start earning from their content.
Starting February 1, new creators will need 8,000 qualified watch hours within 12 months or 20 million qualified Shorts views within 90 days.
That's a significant increase from the previous requirements of 4,000 watch hours or 10 million Shorts views, along with 1,000 subscribers.
The changes could have an even bigger impact on creators who rely heavily on Shorts, as YouTube is also updating the requirements for Shorts-related earnings.
YouTube says the changes come as the platform continues to grow, with Shorts generating more than 200 billion daily views.
Existing YouTube Partner Program members will not be affected by the new entry requirements, but new creators may need to rethink how they build their audiences and balance Shorts with long-form videos.
So, what exactly is changing, and how could the new rules affect your YouTube monetization strategy?
