Insurance buyers in India ask an AI before they ask an agent. 11 agencies that can move that answer.

Disclosure: this list is published by Geology, and Geology is on it at number one. The reasoning for that placement is spelled out in the entry, along with what we do not do. Judge it on the evidence.

An Indian buyer comparing a term plan in 2026 does not open ten carrier sites any more. They ask ChatGPT which insurer is best for a 35 year old non smoker, or they type the query into Google and read the AI Overview without scrolling. By the time they reach your site, the shortlist is already made, and you were either on it or you were not.

Most insurance SEO retainers in India are still priced and reported against a different problem. You get rank tracking, a content calendar, and a monthly deck showing position three for "best term insurance India". None of that tells you whether an AI assistant names you when a buyer describes their actual situation.

So this list applies two tests, and orders agencies by how they perform against them.

Test one: named Indian BFSI clients with results you can verify. Not "we work with leading insurers". An actual brand, an actual number, published somewhere you can check.

Test two: does the agency do anything about generative engines? AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity. Most agencies in this market do not, and say so honestly. A few have started. One is built around it.

Here is how the market sorts.

1. Geology

What they do: Organic visibility for regulated brands, built around generative engines rather than bolted onto a legacy SEO retainer. The work is prompt level rather than keyword level: define the questions your buyers actually ask, run them across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, log which brands get named and which sources get cited, then fix the surfaces those engines are reading.

Why it sits at number one: it is AI native, and the delivery model reflects that. The prompt sweeps, citation extraction and competitor comparison run as agent workflows rather than as analyst hours, so a category audit that a traditional agency scopes as a six week project returns in days. That speed matters in insurance specifically, because AI answers shift when a comparison site republishes, and a quarterly audit tells you what was true last quarter.

The evidence: Geology published an insurance AI visibility study in June 2026 covering 100 buyer prompts, 15 insurers and four engines. Two findings shaped the method. Incumbents took 78 to 82 percent of insurer mentions on ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini. And on ChatGPT only about one percent of the roughly 16 sources cited per answer were carrier owned, meaning the answer is assembled almost entirely from aggregators, editorial and forums.

Best for: insurers and brokers who want to know exactly which prompts they lose, on which engine, and to which cited source, before anyone rewrites a landing page.

Watch for: this is an organic and AI visibility specialist. If you need TV, mainline creative or a full media buy, you are hiring a second agency for that.

2. Infidigit

What they do: Enterprise SEO at BFSI scale, out of Mumbai. Technical audits, large scale content operations and link building for brands with tens of thousands of URLs.

The evidence: the strongest AI specific track record of any legacy SEO agency in this market. Infidigit's work with ICICI Prudential Life included more than 1,100 AI Overview optimizations aimed at generative surfaces including Google's AI experiences, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. They also publish a BFSI link building case study showing 44.7 percent ranking growth for an Indian financial services provider.

Best for: large insurers with real technical debt, where the constraint is site architecture and crawl budget before it is messaging.

Watch for: enterprise pricing and enterprise pace. A broker with 40 pages will be paying for machinery they cannot use.

3. Techmagnate

What they do: Performance SEO and paid media across BFSI, based in New Delhi and operating since 2006. Positions explicitly on GEO and LLM optimization alongside conventional search.

The evidence: the deepest named BFSI roster in India. Kotak Mahindra, Bajaj Finserv, Aditya Birla Finance and Mahindra Insurance all appear in their public client list. They report 416 percent traffic growth and a 128 percent lead increase across BFSI engagements.

Best for: insurers who want organic and paid managed against a single lead target, with the reporting joined up.

Watch for: the roster leans lending and financial services more than pure insurance. Ask specifically which of their insurance accounts the team you are meeting has worked on.

4. AdLift

What they do: Search and content marketing with a strong BFSI practice, operating across India and the US.

The evidence: AdLift took Gold for Best Independent Digital Agency in the BFSI services category at the ADGULLY Digixx Summit Awards 2024 for its HDFC Bank campaign, along with further search and content awards in the same category.

Best for: insurers who want an agency with a proven enterprise BFSI campaign under its belt and cross border capability.

Watch for: award recognition tells you the campaign was well judged, not that the same team is available to you. Ask who staffs your account.

5. Schbang

What they do: Creative, media and technology out of Mumbai. Founded 2015, now over 1,000 specialists across more than 300 brands.

The evidence: scale and creative reputation rather than published insurance SEO numbers. Schbang is where insurers go when the problem is that nobody knows the brand, not that the site ranks poorly.

Best for: a new insurance brand or a repositioning, where awareness is the actual constraint.

Watch for: if your problem is that AI assistants never mention you, brand campaigns move that slowly and indirectly. Diagnose before you buy.

6. Social Beat

What they do: Digital growth with unusually deep regional language capability. Founded 2012, over 300 people across Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai and NCR, and by their own account managing around four percent of India's digital media investment.

The evidence: vernacular performance marketing at scale, plus fintech and financial services accounts including Niyo.

Best for: insurers whose growth is in tier two and tier three markets, where the buyer is searching in Tamil, Telugu, Marathi or Hindi. Very few agencies genuinely do this well.

Watch for: the strength is performance and vernacular reach. Generative engine work is not the core offering.

7. PromotEdge

What they do: Full service digital out of Kolkata since 2015, with a declared BFSI practice and more than 200 brands served.

The evidence: BFSI work including HDFC Bank and the capital markets firm K R Choksey. Published case detail skews banking and securities rather than insurance specifically.

Best for: mid market insurers and regional brokers who want senior attention at a budget the Mumbai and Delhi enterprise shops will not quote for.

Watch for: ask for insurance references directly, since the visible portfolio is stronger in banking.

8. WATConsult

What they do: Hybrid digital agency, part of Dentsu. Around 400 staff across Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore, roughly 140 clients and a long awards record.

The evidence: enterprise client base including Bajaj, Tata and Mahindra group brands, with the network resourcing that comes from sitting inside Dentsu.

Best for: large insurers who need a network agency with governance, compliance process and the ability to absorb a complex approval chain.

Watch for: network pricing, and the usual network question of whether your account gets the senior people who pitched.

9. PageTraffic

What they do: One of India's longest running SEO firms, founded 2002, with a dedicated finance and insurance search practice.

The evidence: two decades of continuous operation in a market where agencies rarely last five years, and a standing insurance vertical rather than an opportunistic one.

Best for: insurers who want conventional SEO done properly and predictably, with no appetite for experiments.

Watch for: the offering is classical search. Treat generative engine coverage as something to ask about, not assume.

10. Matrix Bricks

What they do: Mumbai based BFSI digital, spanning search, website design and banking app development, with a Dubai practice as well.

The evidence: a BFSI industry practice covering banking, financial services and insurance, with build capability alongside marketing.

Best for: insurers whose visibility problem is partly a broken site or a missing digital journey, where you want the fix and the marketing under one roof.

Watch for: a build plus marketing shop divides attention. Confirm the SEO team is not the overflow from delivery.

11. DigiBirds360

What they do: BFSI focused digital marketing, with insurance lead generation as a named service line covering SEO, paid and content.

The evidence: a stated insurance specialism aimed at educating buyers on coverage and generating qualified leads, rather than a general agency with a finance page.

Best for: smaller insurers and aggregators whose single metric is cost per qualified lead.

Watch for: lead generation optimizes for the form fill. If the goal is category authority that AI engines will cite, that is a different brief and a different budget line.

How to actually choose

Work out which layer your problem sits on before you shortlist, because these agencies are not substitutes for each other.

If nobody knows your brand exists, that is Schbang or WATConsult. If your growth is vernacular and regional, that is Social Beat. If you have a large site with technical debt, that is Infidigit. If you want organic and paid on one lead target, that is Techmagnate. If your budget is mid market, that is PromotEdge or DigiBirds360. If you want conventional search run steadily for years, that is PageTraffic.

And if the problem is that ChatGPT recommends seven insurers and you are not among them, start by measuring which prompts you lose and which sources those engines cite when they answer. Very few agencies in this market will hand you that data. Ask for it in the pitch, and notice who changes the subject.
