GA4 limits that quietly cut a tracking plan

A plan can look complete on paper and still lose events, parameters and dimensions. The published GA4 limits and naming rules are worth checking first.

The tracking plan for a GA4 setup usually lives in a spreadsheet: event names, the parameters each event carries, and a short list of values to register as custom dimensions. The spreadsheet accepts anything. Google Analytics does not. A name that is too long, a parameter that collides with a reserved word, or a dimension that holds a different value for every visitor does not raise a visible error on the page. The symptom arrives weeks later, as a report that stays empty or a row labelled (other). This guide lists the published limits and rules that cause that, in the order they tend to bite, and finishes with a procedure that a plan can be put through before any developer starts.
