The mission tells you why; the identity, who; the domain, where. Six domains are the territory where work unfolds — not a list of careers but a topographic map of all endeavor.
Matter. Dealing with the physical: manufacturing, energy, construction, agriculture. The oldest domain, slowest returns — but every domain must finally land on matter. Bits run on atoms.
Information. Dealing with data and knowledge: software, media, research. Lowest marginal cost — copying needs no factory. Fastest-growing territory, and most crowded.
Life. Dealing with living systems: medicine, genetics, agritech. Most complex, longest cycles — but a breakthrough here changes the boundary of existence itself.
Mind. Dealing with cognition and consciousness: education, psychology, AI. Most inward, least measurable. AI makes it engineerable for the first time.
Relation. Dealing with connections: social, trade, protocols. The internet only developed the surface. Trust machinery, coordination structures, connecting the unconnected — the largest open ground.
Symbol. Dealing with systems of meaning: art, mathematics, language, philosophy. Produces nothing material, yet defines the meaning of all other domains.
The rule: crossing is normal, but each crossing requires depth somewhere — shallow spans over ten domains lose to deep spans over two. The best position is the border of two: fluent in matter's language and information's grammar, where problems are most invisible and solvers fewest.
