All existence fits in a 3×3 matrix. Horizontal axis: three modes of being. Vertical: three levels. Nine cells containing everything.
Three modes (horizontal). Matter: occupies space, obeys physics. Information: occupies no space, infinitely copyable. Relation: neither matter nor information, yet determines how both connect — a marriage certificate is information; a marriage is a relation.
Three levels (vertical). Potential: could exist but doesn't yet. Actual: existing now. Memory: existed, now exists another way.
The nine cells. Matter×Actual=a table. Matter×Potential=an unmined vein. Matter×Memory=a fossil. Information×Actual=this text. Information×Potential=the theorem not yet thought. Information×Memory=a lost language. Relation×Actual=friendship. Relation×Potential=the collaboration between strangers that hasn't happened. Relation×Memory=what a departed teacher taught you.
Why it matters. Most arguments are cell-mixing. "Does AI have intelligence?" — one side means Information×Actual (computation occurring), the other Relation×Potential (consciousness absent). Different cells, unresolvable by argument. Ask which cell first: half of philosophy's hard problems dissolve.
The innovation map. Empty cells are opportunities. Relation×Potential is emptiest — connecting the not-yet-connected is the biggest business after the internet.
