The more important point is that "... want to hack me" implies that someone is targeting you, newsflash about computers, they make things in bulk, really fast and in some cases really easy, a cracker doesn't neet to target you, but all the people with your security holes, you are not the target, but all the Win XP fellows like you; not you person X, but all the thousand users of service Y using a weak password; YOU are just an iteration in a loop, a line in a 10MB file.

Using some of the advices in this post will raise you hopefully above some mass attacks, in a group of people you don't need to run faster than the lion, just don't be the slowest person.

And the more precautions you take, the less likely you are to be a victim of some random mass attack and the better cracker someone have to be to target you. If you get cracked in a targeted attack by a talented cracker, well, it's life; but please don't be cracked by some script kiddie that just got a script he found and doesn't understand, that's just sad. That is not getting killed by an assassin is drowning in your bowl of soup.
