I spent Four days on this article. I hope you like it dear reader. This content covers almost everything about the Story protocol.
Everything in this Article has been created with the Matrix concept. It has been written because Story is a matrix within a matrix. It is a project that has built a world within a world.
You know I seee artificial intelligence as one of humanitys greatest discoveries right up there with electricity and the internet. Its like weve created this meta intelligence a kind of helper that doesnt just assist but actually amplifies creativity and problem-solving in ways weve never seen before.
And theen theres the Story ecosystem. It takes this AI driven power and channels it into a community, making it more than just a tool its a movement. Story Protocol isnt just about protecting creative works its about redefining how we collaborate. Withh AI woven into its core it sets a whole new standard for how stories are created shared and evolved in the digital world.
First lets take a look at how Story emerged and who led the way. As you can see below, the three founders who built a matrix within the Matrix: @jasonjzhao, @JasonLLevy, and Seung Yoon Lee The Three Musketeers of the Matrix.
Jason zhao
At Story Protocol Zhao aims to build a decentralized infrastructure for registering managing and monetizing creative works. By leveraging blockchain technology the platform seeks to provide transparency and security for intellectual property rights. His vision is to reshape the $60 trillion IP industry and empower creators worldwide.
Beyond his work in technology, Zhao has explored the intersection of storytelling and innovation. He was the founding Editor in Chief of Stanford Rewired a publication focused on digital narratives. His expertise combines AI blockchain and creative industries positioning him as a key figure in the future of digital ownership.
Jason Levy
@JasonLLevy is the co-founder and COO of Story Protocol focusing on decentralizing intellectual property management. Previously, he led the content team at Pocket Gems Episode, a major storytelling app and worked as a financial analyst at Apple. He also founded Worlds Between Worlds a mobile entertainment startup.
With an MBA from Stanford and a background in Economics and Creative Writing from USC Levy blends business and creativity. At Story Protocol he aims to empower creators by providing tools for protecting and monetizing their work.
Seung Yoon Lee
Seung Yoon Lee is the co founder and Ceo of Story Protocol aiming to revolutionize intellectual property(Yes our IP) management through blockchain. Previously he founded Radish a serialized fiction app acquired by Kakao Entertainment for $440 million. He later served as Kakaos Global Strategy Officer leading major acquisitions like Wuxiaworld.
An Oxford graduate in Politics and Economics Lee was the first East Asian President of the Oxford Union. He is also a Venture Partner at Hashed advising web3 startups while driving innovation at Story Protocol. (Oxford😲)
The Story team is very large and all the other contributing team members are just as valuable as the founders. HONOR! them as well.
Storys infrastructure is all about making sure real artists keep true ownership of their work. Its built to give creators the tools and security they need to protect their ideas in an ever-changing digital world. From the first spark of an idea to long-term protection and monetization Story Protocol creates a decentralized system that's rooted in transparency and fairness.
But its not just about protection Story is designed to help creativity flourish. With blockchain and AI-driven technology at its core, it secures ownership while also opening up new ways to collaborate, license, and generate revenue. And the best part? This ecosystem isnt static it evolves alongside artists ensuring their work stays valuable and accessible no matter how the industry shifts. Through this vision Story Protocol is shaping a future where creators have full control over their work from development to distribution, and can truly reap the benefits of their own intellectual property.
Many people are not aware of the core features of Story and what IP really means so Ive prepared a MIND MAP for you IPPY!❤️ Please take a good look at it.
Now that weve learned a bit about the team and the founding of Story lets talk about its structure. The first topic Id like to discuss is Proof of Creativity.
Story is a blockchain designed for managing intellectual property, giving creators the ability to tokenize their work with built-in licensing and royalties. At its core is the Proof of Creativity(AND POS)Protocol which automates IP management to ensure creators maintain control receive fair compensation, and collaborate effortlessly. With transparency and legal enforcement baked in Story makes it easier than ever to protect and monetize creative work in a decentralized ecosystem.
Story Protocol has the potential to revolutionize the entertainment industry by enabling decentralized IP ownership giving creators full control over their work and its monetization. By removing intermediaries and fostering a more transparent ecosystem it paves the way for greater creative collaboration and financial sustainability in storytelling.
With its transparent system Story Protocol verifies originality and tracks IP lineage ensuring creators retain full control over their work. By leveraging blockchain it establishes an immutable record of ownership, minimizing disputes and guaranteeing fair compensation. This empowers independent creators to compete on equal footing with major studios, fostering a more inclusive and dynamic creative ecosystem.
The most important thing is that the IP token aims to represent a $61 trillion market redefining the way intellectual property is owned and traded. This is truly a revolutionary goal unlocking immense value for creators and investors alike. Yes! our MONEY $IP!
After reading the whitepaper that Story released Im even more excited about AI than before. It really dives deep into the framework of the blockchain and how it all works. Lets take a closer look at whats written there and break down the structure of Storys blockchain together. It's fascinating how everything is set up to support creators and their intellectual property.
Story Protocol Layer's
The consensus mechanism of Story Protocol is a combination of Proof-of-Stake (PoS) and Proof of Creativity with two main roles: Validators and Delegators. Validators are required to stake higher amounts of tokens to secure the network ensuring its integrity and performance. They play a crucial role in validating transactions and maintaining the decentralized nature of the ecosystem. On the other hand Delegators have lower staking requirements. They delegate their tokens to Validators supporting the network while earning rewards. This system encourages participation from a wider range of users, offering both security and accessibility within the Story Protocol. It creates a balanced and scalable environment where creators, validators, and delegators all have a stake in the platform's success. Through this approach Story Protocol ensures the security, transparency and fairness of intellectual property management creating a sustainable ecosystem for all participants.
Story is a pretty ambitious blockchain, and its EVMcompatible which already makes it a solid choice for developers. But what really sets it apart is its improved smart contract capabilities. By building on the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM-Ethereum virtual machine) its able to offer a familiar yet powerful environment that's perfect for creating next gen applications. What's even cooler is how Story brings AI into the mix. It's not just a nice add-on; it's baked into the system to optimize everything from transaction processing to how smart contracts are executed.
The infrastructure is carefully thought out and its clear that Story is built to grow and adapt over time. Its not just about keeping up with the times its about leading the charge. With a focus on continually improving its smart contracts and expanding the role of AI Story is setting itself up for success. Its goals are big but the framework theyve created gives it a really good shot at achieving them. Storys on track to not just change the way we think about intellectual property management, but to truly reshape how we interact with technology in the digital age.
Consensus Layer
The consensus layer is super important because it keeps the whole network secure, stable, and running smoothly. It makes sure blocks are formed properly and fairly across all participants, which is what keeps the system decentralized and trustworthy. Since blockchain technology is evolving so fast Storys consensus layer is designed to be flexible. This way it can easily adapt to new innovations as they come upp making sure the network stays relevant and up to date.
For the consensus engine Story uses CometBFT which is a modern take on Tendermint. This is a smart choice because Tendermint has been around for a while and proven to be reliable. With CometBFT Story can handle a lot of transactions without sacrificing security or performance. It also gives the network room to scale meaning it can grow without issues. This engine helps Story stay agile, so as new blockchain technologies and improvements come up, it can integrate them seamlessly, keeping everything running smoothly.
Tendermint provides Byzantine Fault Tolerance (BFT) and can be tailored to meet the specific needs of Story. It ensures security even if up to 33% of validators are compromised or offline leveraging cryptographic proofs to detect and penalize bad actors. This guarantees that honest nodes always reach consensus on the blocks being committed.
Storys consensus layer operates on a ProofofStake (PoS) model where validators are key to maintaining the blockchains security and integrity.
Malicious actions result in penalties, such as the loss of staked tokens, incentivizing honest behavior. It also manages staking operations lockup requirements and reward distribution creating a system that rewards efficient participation.
Execution Layer
The Execution Layer is like the heart of the network it handles all the transactions and smart contracts. Its built with a multi-core design so its pretty flexible. The main core focuses on EVM compatibility and processes the transactions but it can activate other specialized cores depending on the type of contract execution needed. Each of these cores is optimized for different things like speed scalability safety or privacy. The cool part is users can interact with them through smart contracts without even noticing the different layers working in the background.
Theree are some key thngs each core needs to make sure everything runs smoothly. First determinism this just means that no matter how much the core is optimized, itl still give consistent results every time. Then theres bounded resource consumption which ensures that the gas costs for contract calls are accurate, so users aren't overcharged. Lastly proper storage management is a must. Data needs to be stored in a way thats easy to access and follow the consensus ruless basically it has to be organized in a keyvalue format that everyone agrees on. All of this ensures the network stays reliable active and fair for everyone using it.
Storage Layer
The storaage layer is like the bridge that sits right above the consensus layer connecting everything together. It provides storage APIs to the execution layer and its cores, so the data can be organized properly. It abstracts the compplexity of how data is stored using cryptographic commitments to ensure security and it picks the right database for the job. Its designed with efficiency in mind drawing inspiration from how NAND Flash works. The goal is to optimize how data is placed across different systemstaking into account performance scalability cost proof size and redundancy. This layer even predicts where the data should go based on things like how often its used how often its accessed and how durable it needs to be.
Whats great about this layer is that it makes things easier for users. It offers a simple interface for both on chain and offchain storage such as IPFS and Arweave. Storing large amounts of data on chain can get expensive but this storage layer handles all the complexity for you making sure everything runs smoothly and predictably. This way you can easily integrate large data sets and metadata without compromising on performance or user experience. For more technical details theyll be shared in a follow-up paper but the idea is to make the whole process seamless and efficient.
You can read all of the layers and their summaries from this infographic too. I prepared this for those who don't like reading and prefer short summaries. Keeping the readers engaged is the number one priority.
I will share more information about the technical structure of the Story protocol but before that I would like to talk about its investment.
So Story Protocol has been doing really well with its fundraising. It raised $29.3 million in the Seed round on May 17 2023 $25 million in the Series A round on September 6 20233 and then went BİGwith $80 million in the Series B round on August 21 2024
One of the biggest names behind these rounds is Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) which is one of the most influential VCs in Web3 AI and blockchain. Theyve been leading the way in every round, showing just how much confidence they have in Story Protocol's vision.
Then theres Polychain Capital known for their crypto and blockchain focused investments. They jumped in during the Series B round adding even more weight to the project.
Hashed Fund a South Koreabased fund thats big on Web3 investments in Asia also supported Story Protocol, investing in both the Series A and Seed rounds. Dont forget!!! the CEO has some strong connections with Hashed and theyve been a real help when it comes to securing investment.
SamsungNext, the innovation arm of Samsung, also got involved, especially in the Series A and Seed rounds. They're all about supporting blockchain and AI ventures, so it's no surprise they backed Story.
Lastly Mirana Ventures a fund focused on blockchain and the metaverse, made its mark in both the Series A and Seed rounds. All these big names and investments are a clear sign that Story Protocol is on the right path to making a huge impact in the industry.
Letts go back to the technical part. The whitepaper has a great section on this topic and Ive summarized it for you highlighting this revolutionary goal! ..
Universal Market for Intelligence
So while Bitcoin and Ethereum totally changed the game for money not much has been done to adapt blockchains for othher asset types especially intellectual property (IP). Thats where Story comes in. It wants to create unstoppable digital markets by letting people make peer to peer IP transactions through something called programmable IP. This totally removes the inefficiencies we see in traditional IP systems. With Story
IP assets like those in pharmaceuticals or mediacan be brought onto the blockchain as Real world assets (RWAs).
But itt doesnt stop there. Story also allows for IP fractionalization and connects with DeFi applications, opening up new possibilities like IPFi (intellectual property finance). Whats even more interesting is that agents can autonomously license IP assets improving their knowledge over time through fine tuning. They also share the revenue they generate with the original IP holders thanks to Storys royalty module. Plus theres even the option for agent to agent IP exchanges, making it possible for a whole new marketplace to develop. In this system, Story acts as the settlement layer for all these transactions, essentially making it the backbone of agent-based commerce.
Its really happening Matrixception by Story,, ai to ai jason to jason. 😎😎
Chain of Intelligence
Inn the world of AI intellectual property (IP) is more than just code it includes everything from datasets and machine learning models to finetuned models and the packages used to fine tune them. These IP assets form a powerful "chain of intelligence" where one model could be built off deep fine-tuned models and a variety of datasets. But here's the real kicker standalone fine-tuning packages which are way more resource efficient offer an amazing alternative to fully retraining models from scratch Its like the AI version of a shortcut saving time and computational power.
And guess what? With techniques like model fingerprinting they can even capture a models unique attributes when its registered on the blockchain making it easy to trace and track ownership in a transparent way.
Now, heres where it gets really exciting by registering this entire chain of intelligence on Story revenue can be shared across the network. This means that everyone involved, from data providers to model developers, gets compensated fairly and automatically! Story creates a marketplace where high-quality datasets and fine-tuning packages can be traded, rewarding those who contribute to the AI ecosystem. Its a whole new world of AI advancement, where collaboration, transparency and automation fuel rapid growth and innovation. The potential here is huge Story is really setting the stage for the next leap in AI development!
There is only one choise Neo
This much technical detail is enough if we go into more well dive too deep. Next we have the Story ecosystem. Ive prepared a visual for you on this, which took me a few hours but it was worth it. The Story ecosystem is developing at a serious pace every day. This visual only represents about ~50% of the projects. Lets take a look together.
The Story ecosystem is growing at an insane rate, and there's so much going on! Tons of projects and AI technologies are jumping in with amazing functionalities. Let me break it down for you by category, and I'll focus on the ones I personally like and use.
NFTs
NFT projects are really starting to show their potential in the ecosystem. Youve got the OGs like the Color markett which is leading the charge as a major marketplace. Then theres Globkins which is the first NFT project and a huge player in the space. But it doesnt stop there new collections and marketplaces are popping up too, like Mimboku, Emergence and Colors own NFT project. Its a super exciting time for NFTs!
DeFi
When it comes to DeFi, Story is packed with all kinds of cool projects. Some of the standouts Ive come across include Unleash Standart Dex Exchange Storyhunt Piper and Verio. These are topnotch applications that are really pushing the boundaries of decentralized finance.
Bridge and Interop
Story just made a big move by announcing a partnership with LayerZero, which is a major step toward building better bridges across different networks. Since Story is EVMcompatible, we can expect to see even more bridges emerging in the future making it easier to connect with other platforms.
Gaming
Gaming is another area that's picking up a lot of attention, and there are some amazing projects here. Infinitiesea, Gomble, Emergence, and Pixelmon are some of the top projects that are making waves in the ecosystem. I'm especially keeping my eye on Infinitiesea because it's generating a lot of buzz, and I can't wait to get my hands on it soon. Hopefully we'll be able to play these games in no time!
INFRA
This category is a bit more on the technical side for developers, but it's still incredibly important. Some of the standout projects here include Turnkey Goldfish Layerhub and Thirdweb. Theyre laying the foundation for everything that's being built on top of Story.
AI
Now we get to the most exciting part AI!!!. There are so many useful applications in this category I could list fifty of them. But if I had to pick my favorites it would be Poster Fun Mahojin and Playarts. Im always on the lookout for cool tools for visual creation and these definitely hit the mark. Plus there are a ton of advanced DApps in music, books, text creation, and more. Ive found around 50 different projects in this space and theyre all pushing the boundaries of what AI can do.
AI AGENT
Finally I want to talk about AI agents which are an emerging part of the ecosystem. Specifically BENJAMIN the AI agent released by Unleash, has become a highly used and preferred AI agent on Twitter. We will soon see significant growth and expansion in this area.
Its clear Story is bringing a lot of amazing things to the table and Im excited to see how it all evolves!
Im getting to the most important topic. How can you be a part of this ecosystem? How can you get involved? What should you do and what opportunities are available? I've compiled this for you as well.
Story protocol Contributions strategy
Kaito
Kaito is such an awesome project its all about social contribution. What makes it stand out is how it measures and rewards contributions based on mindshare engagement. This is especially great for influencers content creators and anyone who supports projects. And here's the cool part Story Protocol is part of this project under a specific category so it can really help you get more involved in the ecosystem.
If you look at the people in the image theyre all contributors to the Story ecosystem. By interacting with them you can actually earn rewards and make a real contribution to Story. For example at number one youll see Storys CEO Jason.
You can engage with him create content or do anything that helps the ecosystem grow. And thats not all theres also Benjamin the AI agent whos part of this whole network. There are hundreds of profiles like his, and each one offers opportunities to contribute.
Kaito is one of the best ways to contribute socially and I highly recommend engaging with Benjamin. Its a solid strategy for creating high-quality content generating engagement and participating in the Story ecosystem. The more you interact, the more you help shape and grow the community!
Social Active
Social activity though is a bit different from Kaito. Its all about getting involved with Storys social media channels, like helping out on Discord staying active in the community, and working your way up to becoming an OG in the space. The key here is producing quality content that supports the community, engaging in meaningful discussions, and keeping up with the latest developments so you're always ahead of the curve as one of the first adopters.
Story Protocol offers a ton of frameworks and opportunities for this kind of social activity. By being active and contributing to conversations, you help build the community, which is one of the best ways to really get noticed and make an impact in the ecosystem.
Building
Story Protocol is packed with frameworks making it an amazing opportunity for developers. Its got a huge contribution library on GitHub which means theres so much you can do if you're into building. If you're working with AI and LLMs(language model node) this is the perfect place to create something new. You can apply for grants and really make the most of what this ecosystem has to offer.
By combining smart contracts with AI youve got the chance to build a ton of innovative AIpowered dApps. Its a goldmine for developers looking to push boundaries and create next level applications. If youre not already involved nows the time to jump in!
