How did an animator become a cloud engineer?

Hi friends, I'm Gopikrishna. During my college days, I dreamed of becoming a moviemaker. To pursue this passion, I dedicated myself to learning various aspects of filmmaking, including camera operation, lighting, and editing. I even made several short films, which I submitted to film festivals, receiving encouraging appreciation that further fueled my inspiration.

Early Career in Animation

I graduated in 2017, and soon after, I was selected as an animator for a prominent animation company. There, I trained extensively in software like Maya, mastering skills in modeling, texturing, and animation. This training period lasted until 2018, culminating in a qualifying test for the job. I'm proud to say I passed with a good score and secured the highest package among my batchmates, though it was still a modest amount.

In June 2018, I officially began working on real production projects. I had the incredible opportunity to work on tremendous projects, including some Disney productions. However, in December 2019, things took an unexpected turn when HR abruptly called hundreds of employees and forced us to resign. We had no other option.

Navigating Challenges and the Pandemic

I received my relieving letter in February 2020. I planned to move to Bangalore to apply to a large company there, but sadly, COVID-19 struck in March 2020, leaving me with no option to travel. I applied to numerous companies and underwent many tests, but I had no luck until May 2021, when I secured a job with a Mumbai-based company. There, I worked on another fantastic Disney project. This lasted until October 2021, when the company informed us there were no new projects and advised us to look for other opportunities.

Following that, I began applying to various companies and was selected for a freelance project company. I started working without receiving a salary for three months. Unfortunately, December 2021 brought a sad moment in my life: I lost my father. I couldn't work for a few days, and then they told me I could leave the organization. To add to the difficulty, they didn't pay my salary.

A Career Shift to IT

In January 2022, I received a referral from my old manager and interviewed for my dream company as an animator. However, a question arose in my mind: what if I lost this job again? This uncertainty led me to reject the offer and instead decide to shift my career into IT.

I researched many blogs and attended remote seminars. One day, a friend shared a news article about the AWS re/Start Program. I applied, was selected, and began training at EDUjobs Cademy in Bangalore. The training started in March 2022, marking my entry into the cloud world. I learned all the basics of Linux, Python, security, databases, and AWS. I dedicated a lot of time to the program, successfully completing the AWS Cloud Practitioner certification and earning the AWS re/Start Graduate Badge.

Later, with the help of my institute, I applied for Cloud and DevOps roles and was selected as a Cloud Engineer. I have now successfully completed 3.6 years as a Cloud Engineer.
