Ambrosia Energy is building a large-scale battery manufacturing plant in Texas, founded by former SpaceX executives Ben Longmier and Sara Spangelo.
The project aims to produce 10 GWh of battery capacity annually to power off-grid data centers.
Their approach combines solar arrays with proprietary battery storage to ensure continuous uptime, targeting an energy cost of 100 dollars per megawatt-hour.
The 150,000-square-foot facility is expected to reach full capacity within three years.
Combination of solar energy and batteries
The company's plan involves using solar panels in combination with batteries to ensure a continuous power supply 24 hours a day. Ambrosia Energy is targeting an energy cost of $100 per megawatt-hour, offering a solution for the high energy needs of data centers.
The company manufactures its own batteries in its own facilities. The new Texas factory will cover an area of 150.000 square feet and is expected to reach full production capacity of 10 gigawatt hours per year within the next 2 to 3 years.
First steps and tests
Construction is already underway on the first commercial unit in West Texas. The facility will include 300 MW of solar power and 660 MWh of battery storage. The company has also put into operation an experimental system that has been providing continuous power for more than 100 days.
