Apple releases security updates for older iPhones and iPads

Apple has backported security fixes for a high-severity CoreGraphics out-of-bounds write flaw to older devices with iOS and iPadOS 18.7.11, alongside patches for audio logic and camera access vulnerabilities.

The release coincides with a broad wave of software updates across the Apple ecosystem.

According to the company, the new versions of iOS 18.7.11 and iPadOS 18.7.11 fix a serious issue related to file editing that, as it turns out, had been used in real-world attacks against specific, targeted individuals using older versions of iOS. Previous fixes for the same issue were released last month for newer devices.

Which devices are affected by the new updates?

The new 18.7.11 updates target older models, ensuring they remain protected. Supported devices include:

  • iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR
  • iPad (7th generation)
  • iPad Air (4th generation and later)
  • iPad (9th generation and later)
  • iPad mini (6th generation and later)

In addition to the main security issue, these releases also fix an audio management issue that could leak users' personal data, as well as a camera system access issue that could allow an app to access the camera without the user's approval.

Wide range of updates for the latest devices

At the same time, Apple released iOS 27.2, iPadOS 27.2, macOS Golden Gate 27.2, tvOS 27.2, watchOS 27.2, visionOS 27.2, and Safari 27.2, which fix hundreds of different security issues.
