Apple says strong magnets near an iPhone’s rear camera can affect the sensors used by autofocus and image stabilisation.
The result may be blurry images; a strong magnetic field can reduce motion-detection accuracy and limit lens movement.
The camera may still take photos using other stabilisation methods.
The examples cited include magnetic-closure cases and car mounts.
The camera can continue to take photos with other stabilization modes, even if focus or stabilization is affected. Apple specifically warns against third-party accessories with strong magnets and suggests avoiding anything that brings magnetic fields near the cameras.
Apple also states that strong vibrations, such as those from powerful motorcycles, can cause permanent damage to camera sensors. It also has a support page with instructions for troubleshooting iPhone camera problems.
